Philanthropy
Theta is associated with their national philanthropy, C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) which gives abused and neglected children a voice in court through appointed advocates from the community. Since 1989, the National CASA Association has received grant support from the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation as Kappa Alpha Theta’s selected philanthropy. To date, over $800,000 has been contributed to fund National CASA’s public awareness efforts, including educational materials, videos, publications and the Kappa Alpha Theta Program Director of the Year award. Additionally, local Theta chapters and members generously and tirelessly support local CASA programs nationwide through a variety of volunteer and fundraising activities.
What Has the Zeta Phi Chapter Done?
Beginning in 2005, Kappa Alpha Theta's Zeta Phi Chapter changed their philanthropy event from SandCASA to Ante Up for CASA. Ante Up for CASA is an eventful Poker Tournament with raffles and prizes for tournament winners as well as a introduction to the event made by a CASA spokeswoman. During the event, Thetas fulfill the role of dealers, waitresses and scorekeepers as players try their odds at Texas Hold'em.
SandCASA
Every year before 2005, the Zeta Phi Chapter of Pepperdine donated to C.A.S.A. through SandCASA. This annual event is that included all of campus, especially Greek organizations. SandCASA was a fun-filled day at the beach that included obstacle course activities and the famous sand castle building contest!
More recently, Theta had a successful T-shirt drive donating clothing to the L.A. Dream Center to help the less fortunate in the City of Los Angeles.
Theta is fully dedicated to their philanthropy as well as being an active participant within the Malibu community and especially on Pepperdine's campus.
The Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation strengthens and empowers members through philanthropy and education. |
